How to Build a Race Track

Racing RC cars can be entertaining and exciting. Having your own race track will help build your racing skills.  You can even compete with friends and family. Building your own race track is fun and surprisingly easy. Follow these instructions and you will have your new race track ready for racing in no time.

How to Build a Race Track

  1. Find a location for the track. A garage floor, basement or driveway are excellent areas for a race track. The size of the track will depend on the size of the RC vehicles you are racing. Measure the width of the vehicles and add three inches on either side per lane.

  2. Purchase plywood and cut to the desired shape and size of the racetrack. The plywood will be the base to your track. Building the race track on plywood also gives you the added flexibility of portability. You can move the track to any location you choose.

  3. Glue the cut pieces of plywood in the layout you desire. Use industrial wood glue and let it dry for a minimum of 24 hours.

  4. Purchase thin low-friction carpet. Cut the carpet to the size of the track and secure with staples using a staple gun. Keep the carpet taught to avoid buckling.

  5. Add to your track by placing cones in between the lanes and obstacles along the way. These can be hot glued to the track or placed freely to change the track a bit each time you race.
