How to Build a Television Stand for a Simple Room

If you've recently purchased a TV and don’t have the money to by a stand you can build your own. It does not take a lot of work to build a television stand, especially for a small room such as a bedroom where you may not have a lot of space. With the right supplies from any home improvement store you can create your own TV stand.

Materials Needed:

  • Measuring tape

  • 3/4 inch plywood

  • Four table legs

  • Four L-brackets

  • Screw driver

  • Wood screws

  • Drill

  • Drill bits

  • Level

  • Fine grit and medium grit sandpaper

  • Primer and Paint

  • Stain (optional)

  1. Measure the space and room where you will build your TV stand. This will give you the dimensions to make your TV stand.

  2. Cut your pieces of plywood to the dimensions that you desire, depending on how many shelves you want. Cut one piece that is equal to the dimension of your entire space. When you are done building your stand you will screw this piece on the back of your stand to give it extra support.

  3. Attach L brackets to your plywood in the places that you plan to add a shelf. Evenly space the brackets on each leg.

  4. Start with the bottom shelf, using a drill and wood screws attach it to the brackets. Work your way up the shelf using each piece of pre-cut plywood. Use a level to help even the shelves before you attach the next shelf.

  5. Screw the support plywood on the back of the shelf with the wood screws. Sand all edges of the shelf to smooth them using medium grit sandpaper first, and then finish them off using fine grit sandpaper.

  6. Paint primer on the surface, and then paint or stain to finish your TV stand.
