How to Build a Wardrobe
Fashion is in the eye of the beholder and building your own personal style during any season is a great way to come up with ideas for a new wardrobe. If you are not sure where to start, do not be afraid to get inspiration from magazines, celebrities, clothing retailers, family or even from your environment.
- Clean out the closet. Doing so can help motivate you to get rid of clothing that is taking up extra space.
- Create two separate piles. One pile for discarding and the other for clothing that you'd like to keep. You may even find items that have never been worn, which will save you some extra money.
- Separate the clothes by seasons. Store the off-season clothes in boxes or storage containers.
- Make a list of items and accessories needed.
- Buy clothes that are wearable for a long time. Denim is a great choice for all seasons and the material lasts for many years if properly taken care of.
- Do not purchase items that only go with one outfit. Consider colors that can be mixed and matched with other colors. Buy colors that compliment your shape, height and skin tone.
- Purchase at least five to 10 outfits in addition to your current pieces to complete your clothing wardrobe collection. This does not include shoes or accessories.
- Purchase shoes and accessories that compliment your new outfits.
