How to Build a Water Treatment System

Water treatment systems are designed to clear your water of impurities so that you can consume or use the water for your needs. In order to build your own treatment system, you must first understand the various contaminants that exist. There are a few basic factors that must be considered when making the system so that you are sure you are getting the most efficient cleaning.

Items Needed:

  • Water tests

  • Water filters

  • Chlorine

  1. Run tests on the water so that you know what contaminants you are trying to treat. In order to do this, you will need to get samples of your water and have hem professionally tested at a lab. When you take the samples in for testing, make sure they know to test for anything that is harmful, as well as contaminants that have an effect on the way the water tastes.

  2. Filter the water to remove the large pieces of sediment. This includes dirt, rocks and other types of visible debris. Ideally, you should have more than one method of filtering. In order to remove the large pieces, a screen filter will suffice.

  3. Chlorinate the water to kill living organisms. You can also opt to use ultraviolet radiation as your method of disinfecting the water. There are other methods that you can also use as long as the water is safe to consume.

  4. Remove contaminants that are revealed from the professional lab results. Depending on the exact contaminants that exist, you will need to purchase the appropriate treatment option for that object. For instance, if you have excessive hardiness, the treatment option you will use will be different from if you have iron in the water.
