How to Build a Window Screen Replacement
Instead of purchasing a new window screen you can make your own window screen replacement at half the cost. The screen will allow you to open your window and let in some fresh air without any bugs entering your home.
Things you will need:
- Window screen frame pieces
- Spline
- Spline roller
- Tape measure
- Length of screen material
- Tin snips
- Pen
- Paper
- Screws
- Screwdriver
- Measure the height and the width of the window frame on the outside. Record your measurement.
- Purchase the correct size frame pieces by the measurements you have recorded.
- Place the frame pieces on a surface that is flat.
- Lock the frame pieces together. Follow the instructions that were provided with the frame to correctly make the frame piece for the screen.
- Lay the screen material over the frame by unrolling it.
- Use your tin snips to cut the screen material to fit in the screen frame. Allow some overlapping on each side of the frame.
- Get your spline roller and roll it over the screen to push the screen into the frame.
- Use your roller tool again and place the spline over the screen.
- Get your tin snips and cut away any extra screen that is past the spline.
- Install the window screen onto the window it is replacing. Place the bottom of the frame into the track first than attach the top of the screen to the track. Make sure the window screen is in the door correctly before doing the finishing step.
- Attach the frame using a screwdriver and screws to the metal frame on the door.
