How to Buy Auto Tires
Every car needs new tires at one point or another. Luckily, purchasing the right tires is simple and you have a variety of options as to where to purchase them. Tires can be purchased online, at a retail store, or at a dealership.
- Find out what size tire you need. You can find this information by looking on the tires you already have on your car. Usually this information will be on the tire near the rim.
- Shop online to compare prices on tires. There are quite a few online websites you can buy tires from, so it's a good idea to shop online. If you choose to buy your tires online, you will need to specify a mechanic shop for the online retailer to send the tires to. It's a good idea to notify the shop that you are purchasing tires online for them to install. When you call them, you can also make an appointment to get your tires changed based on the online shipping estimate.
- Buy tires from a retailer such as Goodyear or Sears. Retail tire shops usually have a fairly decent selection of tires to choose from. Also, the employees of these places are generally knowledgeable about tires, so they can help you figure out which type you need. However, mechanics are notorious for attempting to upsell, so they may try to talk you into getting more work done on your car than you want.
- Purchase tires at a car dealership. This will probably be the most expensive option, but it may be convenient for a variety of reasons. For instance, if you have a tire and wheel axle warranty on your car, the tires may be included in the warranty. The dealership will be able to tell you this. Like mechanic shops, car dealerships will probably try and talk you into purchasing extra services.
