How to Buy Clothes for Older Women
Just because a woman is aging doesn't mean she still can't have great style. If you wish to purchase clothing for an older woman in your life, it’s simple. Many department stores cater to older women. These stores offer fashionable, yet comfortable clothing for any occasion.
1. Know what size the woman wears. This is a must in order to purchase proper fitting clothing. Find out her shirt size, dress size and pant size. This will give you multiple options on clothing choices. Writing the sizes down is usually a good idea, since the sizes will probably all be different.
2. Select department stores that cater to older women. Talbot's, Macy's and Nordstrom have a good selection of clothing for older women. Avoid purchasing clothing that is designed for younger generations. Some stores to avoid would be American Eagle, Hollister and Abercrombie. These do not have suitable attire for older women.
3. Determine the fit of the clothing. Clothing for older women shouldn't be tight fitting or extremely revealing. Shirts that are fitted, pleated or button up can be good choices. The shirts should allow room for movement and have some give in the material. Skin-tight clothing is not recommended. Shorts and skirts should be an appropriate length. Fingertip length or longer is a good rule for shorts and skirts. Long skirts or knee length are stylish options for dresses and skirts. Solid colors or patterns can look elegant and be dressed up or down. Bold, bright colors should normally be avoided.
4. Purchase any accessories to dress up the outfits, if needed. Necklaces, earrings or bracelets can make solid colors come alive.
