Tips on Buying Engines

How to Buy Engines

Without an engine, most machines will not work. An engine is of vital importance in planes, boats and hundreds of other types of machines. No matter what type of engine you need, there are several different places that you can look for help.

Use one or several of these methods to find the engine you need. The methods may vary slightly depending on the type of motor you are looking for.

  • Check with the manufacturer to buy a motor. Although the cost of the motor is usually most expensive when bought from the manufacturer, you can be assured that the manufacturer will have the motor in stock.

  • Visit a industrial supply store such as Granger. Many times they will have motors available for special order. Granger carries many types of unusual engines, such as air conditioner engines. Call Granger and request a catalog or visit their website for more information.

  • Search online for an engine. You may be able to find what you are looking for by using Google Product Search. Simply type the name of the engine into the search box, and Google will tell you what engines are available. If you give Google your location, they will also tell you where you can find one locally.

  • Look for engines on auction sites such as eBay. Although the online auction process can take longer than buying an engine directly, you can find a great savings by going carefully through the auction process.
