How to Buy Gutters for Your House

1. Make a rough sketch of your current gutter system. This entails drawing a simple diagram of the existing gutters on your home.

2. Take measurements, and note the location of all the gutters for every portion of the home on the diagram. Document exactly how many downspouts there are, the lengths and where they are installed. This will give you all the measurements you need before you buy.

3. Determine which type of materials and colors you prefer. Aluminum and steel gutters do not rust. Vinyl gutters can be custom ordered in colors and are lighter to work with. 

4. Consider purchasing gutter guards. Guards are constructed of mesh materials, which are placed over the top of each gutter. They prevent pine needles, leaves and other types of debris from clogging up gutters.

5. Use the diagram and measurements of your current gutter system to buy gutters at a local hardware store, home improvement center, or purchase them online. You can often find gutters that cost less online.
