How to Buy Healthy Fast Food
In this day of age, many people find it difficult to find time to cook a nutritious and healthy meal at home for their family. Fast food has become widely popular because of its convenience and the fact that it's not expensive.
- Pay attention to the menu's descriptions. If you're going to eat fast food or take out then you really should pay attention to the food descriptions on the menu. If you're looking for healthy choices then avoid any foods that are described as deep fried, pan fried, crispy, creamy, batter dipped and any pasta that is in cream or alfredo sauce.
- Avoid super-sized portions. Try to choose the regular sized portions as even a regular sized portion can have over 1,000 calories in it. Super-sized portions are usually enough for two to three people to eat whereas a regular sized portion is more practical for one person.
- Order the salad instead of the fries. Most fast food restaurants now have the option to choose healthier sides. Forget the fries and go for the side salad or side fruit cup.
- Ditch the soda and choose the water or unflavored iced tea. When it comes to ordering beverages, ditch the soda as carbonated drinks are a source of hidden calories. Avoid diet sodas as well. Choose the water or unflavored iced tea instead as it contains no calories. If you need a little pizazz in your water or tea, order it with a slice of lemon.
- Stay away from the condiments. Most sandwiches at fast food restaurants typically have a sauce or condiment of some sort. Ask for your sandwich without the mayo, ketchup, barbecue sauce or mustard.
- Eat slowly. Statistics have shown that people who eat fast end up eating more as they never really feel full until they are completely stuffed. If you chew your food well and actually savor the taste you will end up feeling fulfilled quicker which in turn will make you eat less.
