How to Buy New Figure Skates

If you enjoy figure skating but your skates don't fit you well anymore you will need to purchase new ones. You need to make sure you just don't buy the least expensive pair of skates but you will need to learn what to look for when purchasing a new pair.

  1. Determine how long you will need the new figure skates for. You will need to keep in mind if you plan on doing jumps or learning any ice dancing with the figure skating. This will help decide on a good pair that will last you for a while.

  2. Know what type of feet that you have. Take in consideration the size of your foot and the shape of them. Keep in mind if you have any problems with your feet when considering your type.

  3. Look for figure skates that are already pre-made if you are just skating for casual means. This would be someone that only skates a couple times a month or a few times during the year.

  4. Custom order your figure skates if you plan on skating very often or during jumps or dancing. You will need to purchase boots and blades separately. The blades wont last very long if you don't sharpen them every time you begin to skate. When purchasing skates try and talk with an experienced skate fitter so you can be sure to get the correct size that is needed for your feet.

  5. Order customized figure skates if you have any feet problems or if your feet are shaped unusually. These skates can be very expensive starting at a price of at least five hundred dollars. They are good to have if you want to get into figure skating professionally or if you plan on staying in the sport for a very long time.
