How to Buy Plus Size Clothes for Teens

Plus size clothing has come a long way from the shapeless frocks of the past. Even with these changes, though, it can be a challenge to find youthful clothing that your fuller figured teen will be satisfied with. To find the fashions that have the right fit and style, you will need to know how to find and buy plus size clothing.

  1. Look for plus size clothing stores that cater to younger women. Clothing styles in these stores will generally be more trendy or casual than stores that are primarily for professional or older women. The plus size clothing store Torrid is an example of where you may find youthful and trendy clothing.

  2. Shop department stores that offer “Junior Plus Sizes.” This is the plus size equivalent of junior sizing and may be intermingled with smaller clothing sizes or a department of their own. Junior plus sizes can frequently be found in stores such as Macy's or Kohl's.

  3. Go online and conduct a search for “Plus Size Teen Clothing” or “Junior Plus Sizes.” In addition to shopping online stores that exclusively sell plus sizes only, also look for junior plus sizes at the websites of retailers that sell predominately smaller sizes, such as Wet Seal for example.

  4. Measure your teen so that you have a basis for selecting the right size. This is especially important when ordering clothing over the Internet, however, you should always have your teen try on the clothing before making a purchase, even when shopping at local brick and mortar stores. This is because sizes often vary significantly according to the manufacturer or store.

  5. Allow your teen have a say in what type of clothing you buy. While you'll ultimately make the decision on what is or isn't appropriate, your teen will have her own sense of style and ideas about what makes clothing fashionable.

  6. Check the return policies before finalizing your purchase, regardless of whether you are buying in person or online. If there is a problem with the fit or construction of the garment, or if your teen changes her mind, you will want to know how and if you can return it.
