How to Buy Swimsuits for Wide Shoulders

For different reasons, many women find it hard to purchase the right swimsuit year after year. Women with wide shoulders many find it extra difficult to find a swimsuit for they do not always cover the shoulder area. With a few tricks and the right material, a woman with wide shoulders can look great in a one- or two-piece swimsuit on the beach or the local pool.

Women with wide shoulders sometimes have a hard time picking out a swimsuit to flatter their figure. With a few simple tricks to move the eye away from the shoulders, there will be no need for women with wide shoulders to dress in coveralls at the waters edge.

  1. Search for a swimsuit that will draw the eyes away from the shoulders. Choose something with a skirt or a one-piece that may have a large 'V' or stripes angling towards the waist.

  2. Look for a swimsuit that has wide straps to balance out your wide shoulders. Stay away from strapless, triangular cuts and spaghetti straps. If the wide straps tie behind the neck, this could help draw the eye to the chest and cleavage and down to the waist.

  3. Choose a squared tank top over a V-cut neck top. This will also help to bring the eye towards the chest or the waist instead of the shoulders.

  4. Pick a high cut for the hips. Whether the suit is a one-piece or a two-piece, make sure the leg opening over the hip is higher. This will help to bring the eyes to the hips and away from the shoulders.

  5. Look for bright, bold prints and patterns for the materials when choosing a swimsuit for wide shoulders. A two-piece bathing suit with a colorful pattern bottom and a solid color top is the perfect choice for wide shoulders.
