How to Buy Theme Park Rides

Many online businesses offer used theme park rides for sale. Purchasing a theme park ride is a major financial investment that should not be taken lightly. Because the rides are in used condition, they come in many states of disrepair and will require maintenance. By purchasing and operating the ride, you accept the liability in case of injury or destruction.

  1. Consider the financial aspect of your purchase. An amusement park ride is a huge financial investment. Most rides have a starting price of about $50,000. The price increases as the size and popularity of a ride increases. Carousels and larger rides cost considerably more than their smaller, less-popular counterparts.

  2. Take into account the liability of purchasing a theme park ride. When you purchase, build and operate a theme park ride, you take on a huge amount of personal liability. You will be responsible if an injury occurs during the operation of your ride. You will also be responsible for any property damage that may occur because of the presence or operation of the ride.

  3. Have the ride inspected before purchase. Hire a ride inspection specialist to thoroughly inspect the ride before you purchase it. Theme park ride retailers can give you the name and number of reputable inspectors.

  4. Complete the training required to operate the ride. If you plan to assemble and operate the ride, you will need to complete a training course. This will likely include operational training, construction training and safety training. After you complete your training, you will need to apply for an operating permit before you will be allowed to operate the ride.

  5. Determine how you will pay for the ride. Most retailers will require a down payment of 10 to 20 percent when you purchase a theme park ride. Decide how you will pay for both the down payment as well as the monthly finance payments. In addition, you will need to pay inspection fees and, in some cases, shipping fees.
