How to Get Black Marks off of Tuxedo Shoes

How to Buy Tuxedo Shoes

After purchasing a tuxedo, a gentleman then needs to find a pair of shoes to match. They do not need to be uncomfortable, shiny shoes from nightmares past as there are stylish and comfortable styles to choose from. Colors other than traditional black can be difficult to find. Look for a shop that can dye leather if you need a custom color.

  1. Decide on the style of dress shoe you want. Round toes are considered more traditional for formal wear, but square toes are more contemporary and fashionable. A square toe may fit more comfortably because of the wider toe box.

  2. Choose between patent leather and faux leather. Leather shoes are more expensive, but can last for years. Faux leather shoes of good quality can last a long time with proper care and are less expensive. Cheap patent shoes are not recommended. Real leather shoes tend to be more flexible. For less formal events, choose matte leather shoes in a wingtip.

  3. Try on the shoes before you buy them. They must be comfortable, and the wearer needs to be able to move freely. Formal shoes are not generally broken in, so comfort from the start is important.

  4. Wear black shoes with a black or white tuxedo. Black and white shoes add a little bit of dramatic flair. Some fashion designers get creative with men’s formal styles and colors.

  5. Pick a shoe with a comfortable heel. If you are a shorter male, it may be tempting to get a higher, stacked heel so your date doesn’t loom over you, but remember that you have to stand in the shoes for many hours.
