How to Buy Used Toyota Cars

Knowing how to negotiate with the seller of a used Toyota car can save the buyer some money. If the Toyota is in good condition, the buyer can negotiate with the seller without worrying about repairs. If the car does need some repair work, the buyer should take that into consideration before making an offer.

  1. Research online to find the value of a used Toyota car you want to buy. Type “used car pricing” into your favorite search engine to see a list of car valuation websites. Select one of the websites and go to the used car section to pull up a valuation report on the Toyota.

  2. Print the report to use when you negotiate the selling price. Most car pricing reports have three values. The highest value is the ”retail” price, while the lowest value is the “wholesale” price. You want to buy the car for as close to the lowest value as possible.

  3. Contact the seller to arrange a time to look at the used Toyota. Inspect the vehicle and take it for a test drive. Bring your mechanic with you if you are not sure how to evaluate the condition of a used car. If the Toyota does not handle the way you like during your test drive, discuss the issue with the seller.

  4. Find out if the seller will take care of any repairs on the Toyota. The cost of possible repairs may increase the total purchase price to an amount that is more than you want to pay. If the Toyota does not need any repair work, negotiate the purchase price with the seller.

  5. Offer to buy the Toyota for the lowest price on the valuation report. The seller will probably make you a counteroffer that is between the original asking price and the amount of your offer. Negotiate with the seller until you arrive at a final purchase price.
