Anytime you are purchasing a used ATV, it can be a gamble. That’s why you should follow certain rules when deciding on what used ATV to buy. It is essential that you do plenty of research on the style and brand of a used ATV as well. Researching the dealers that are selling the used ATV’s is a good idea too. You want quality for the money you are planning to spend.
- Determine what kind of ATV you are seeking. There are several different brands and styles of ATV so knowing what you want will help make the search easier. For example, Artic Cat, Kawasaki, and Honda all offer a huge variety of ATV’s to choose from.
- Pick the used ATV that you want to purchase. Usually it is best to buy from a dealership or from somebody that you personally know. In most cases you are always going to get a good deal on a quality ATV. Be sure to look at the classified area of newspapers or even on bulletin boards that are at ATV dealerships.
- Ask somebody who knows a lot about ATV’s to go with you to look at the ATV. It could be an ATV mechanic, somebody who owns an ATV, or even the owner of an ATV dealership.
- Look at the ATV and inspect thoroughly. Be sure to inspect the frame, underside, the alignment, and oil. You also need to check the air box that is under the seat. If there is water in the box, the motor could be severely damaged. Look for rust in the gas tank as well. Inquire about how many miles and hours have been used on the ATV.
- Determine if you are receiving a fair deal on the ATV. Be sure to ask the owner about all the work that has been done to the ATV and if it has warranties on it.
- Negotiate a deal. Always be aware of the average costs of used ATV’s as opposed to new ATV’s. If you aren’t aware of these costs, you could end up paying more for a used ATV than you should. Some dealers try to take advantage of customers if they can. And why pay a certain price for a used ATV when you can enjoy a brand new ATV.
