How to Cancel a Change of Address With the Post Office

Making a cancellation of a recent Change of Address order with the Post Office is not difficult to correct. In fact, the provisions necessary to make changes and corrections are available online or in person, whichever is more convenient for you.

Correcting a Change of Address at the Post Office

  1. Make sure of when your post office is open. Some close an hour for lunch.

  2. Take the confirmation number with you. It is the number you received by mail or email when you filled in the Change of Address.

  3. Tell the postmaster you filled out a Change of Address recently and need to cancel it. He or she will assist you in having the right documentation to fill out to make the cancellation, and you can fill it out and leave it there.

Correcting a Change of Address at the USPS Web Site

  1. Find and have the confirmation number you already received after you applied for the Change of Address.

  2. Go to https://www.usps.com/, which is the US Postal Service's official web site.

  5. Scroll down the page a little and click on the link in the box outlined in orange under the orange arrow.

  6. Type in your zip code and the confirmation number assigned to you when you filed for a Change of Address. It came in your mailbox.

  7. Click Submit and make the cancellation in the appropriate place on the next page.

  8. Submit until you receive a confirmation. Print out or write down the information for your records.
