How to Change Roller Skate Wheels
Roller-skating is not only a very enjoyable sport, but it is also a great way to exercise. Investing in a good pair of skates is a great idea for someone who is considering pursuing the sport, but they will require proper maintenance to keep them in safe operating condition.
Roller skates are not maintenance free as some people may think. There will come a time when the wheels will become worn and need to be replaced, but this is something you can easily do yourself.
- Use a skate tool to remove the wheels from your skates. You should have received a skate tool with your new skates when you purchased them. If you did not buy them new you can purchase a tool at a sporting goods store.
- Use the tool to turn the nut holding the wheel in place in a counterclockwise direction until the nut comes off the bolts.
- Pull the wheels off the skates.
- Open the new wheels and place them onto the bolts.
- Replace the nuts back on the bolts and slide the screws back on the bolts. Make sure you put the flat end on first.
- Use your fingers to turn bolt in a clockwise direction.
- Use the skate tool to finish tightening the bolts.
- Spin the wheels with your hands to make sure the bolts are not on too tight. If the wheels are hard to spin or do not seem to spin smoothly the bolts are on too tight and they need to be adjusted.
- Use the tool to loosen the bolt and turn the wheels again.
