How to Change Tanks on a Propane BBQ
Barbequing on a warm, summer evening is a time-honored tradition. Propane barbeques have become increasingly more popular than charcoal grills because they heat up more quickly, cook more evenly and don’t require messy and expensive charcoal to prepare a delicious meal. Running out of propane in the middle of cooking doesn’t mean reverting to the kitchen stove. Changing the propane tank on a BBQ is quick and easy.
1. Make sure all of the knobs on the front of your barbeque are turned to the off position.
2. Turn the gas off completely by twisting the control knob on top of the propane tank clockwise until it won’t turn anymore.
3. Remove the pressure regulator from the tank by twisting the connector knob counter clockwise. The pressure regulator is at the end of a hose that runs from the barbeque to the propane tank; generally, it is black. It is connected to the tank with a connector knob that twists on and off.
4. Remove the old propane tank and set it aside to have it refilled. If you don’t have an extra propane tank you will need to take the empty one to get it refilled. Some gas stations and hardware stores are equipped with the ability to refill propane tanks.
5. Place the full propane tank in the spot where the empty tank was removed from.
6. Attach the regulator to the new propane tank by twisting the connector knob to the right, clockwise, until it will no longer turn.
7. Turn the gas on by twisting the control knob on the new propane tank to the left, counter clockwise.
8. Turn your barbeque on to make sure the new tank is working.
