How to Change a Wireless Security Camera to a Wired One
Wireless security cameras are a great invention and give you the ability to put a camera within 30 feet of your wireless router. It is also great because you don't have to move your camera. But if you find you have to move your camera beyond 30 feet, or if you don't want to change cable routing, going to a wired camera would be ideal.
- Gather needed supplies such as a paper clip, an Ethernet cable, measuring tape, and an extension cord (optional).
- Place your paper clip in the tiny reset hole in your security camera. The reset button location varies from model to model, but it is usually located on the bottom or back of the camera. Remember that by resetting the camera it removes all network settings allowing your camera to connect to your wireless router.
- Pull out your measuring tape and measure from the wireless router to the location where you want your camera. Make sure that your camera is out of foot traffic to avoid accidents. Also make sure that you place the camera within 30 feet of an electrical outlet. If you don't, then you will have to have an extension cord. Purchase an Ethernet cable that is long enough to connect your camera to the router.
- Connect one end of the ethernet cable into the LAN port that is located on the back of the wireless router. Then plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port. This is located on the back of the camera.
- Connect your camera to the power source and turn it on.
