How to Check on Employment Applications
You have applied for a new job. Maybe you have put two or three applications in at various places. You are eager to know where you stand, but you don’t want to be annoying either. Your employment is crucial to your survival, so it is important that you know what is happening during the application process.
Here’s how you can check on your employment application without being annoying:
Contact the business where you applied by phone. Don’t call first thing in the morning or right before the business closes. Call during the mid morning or early afternoon. The personnel department is not usually in a rush to get things started or close up the office.
Ask to speak with someone in the personnel or human resource department.
Simply state that you would like to know the status of your application.
You will need to let them know your name and what position you applied for.
Ask if a date has been set to begin interviews.
You may also ask when the position will be filled.
Asking when you may be contacted about this position is not being pushy or annoying. You are showing interest in the position.
If you do not hear from the business on or before the day you were told, call again and check on the status of your application. Simply state that you understood that interviews would begin on this date or that you understood the position would be filled by this specific date. Explain that you had not received a call and you are curious if the position has been filled.
Do not call the office again or between the first call and the second call. Any contact beyond this may be considered too much and annoying. They may scratch your name off the interview list immediately.
