How to Choose Baby Onesies
Onesies are a comfortable clothing item that newborns and infants spend a good amount of time wearing. These are easy to use and can be worn with anything. Making sure you have chosen onesies that fit well and are made of soft hypoallergenic materials will ensure baby is content.
1. Ask if the gender of the baby is known, if the onesies will be given as a gift. If you will be giving the onesies to a friend or family member and know whether the person is having a boy or a girl, you can choose gender specific onesies if you desire. If you don't know the gender of the baby yet, or the future parents prefer to make it a surprise, there are many neutral colored onesies on the market.
2. Determine the baby's weight and height that you wish to purchase onesies for. If the onesies will be for a newborn, only buy a pack or two. Unless the baby is born small or prematurely, the onesies will be outgrown quickly. The average weight of a newborn baby is around seven pound. Size 0-3 month onesies can be purchased in larger quantities. When choosing onesies, round up to the next size. If the weight or height is very close, but not quite to the next size, purchase it anyways. It is much better to have onesies be a little too big than too small. Don't purchase onesies too far in advance, because babies grow so quickly.
3. Carefully read the material that the onesies are created from. Choose a soft fabric, like organic cotton. Baby’s delicate and sensitive skin should be swaddled in a soft, non-irritating material. If the onesies contain any decorations or designs that are sewn into the fabric, ensure that there is a cloth on the inside. This will prevent the material from rubbing on the baby’s skin or feeling scratchy.
4. Check that the onesies do not contain any decorative buttons, beads or strings that could easily become detached and present a choking hazard.
