How to Choose Interior Paint Colors for Your House

The color of your interior paints will be a controlling element for your entire interior design. You will have to choose furniture arrangements and colors to match the paint on your walls. A poorly selected paint will make your room look cluttered and chaotic. Luckily, the steps for selecting a good paint color are straightforward.

  • Evaluate your lighting conditions. The lighting of the room will be influenced by the angle that the light enters your windows. Also, the natural colors outside your home can tint the light as it enters your room. For example, if there are many different shades of green outside your windows, then the light entering your house will be tinted slightly green.

  • Choose a paint that compliments your existing furniture. Unless you plan on purchasing all new furniture, you will need to match your paint to your furniture. Consider the colors of the wood and fabric of your furniture items. If you select a paint that does not compliment these colors, the furniture will strongly clash with your paint color.

  • Use trendy colors to make your room look fresh. If you want your room to look unique and fashionable, then you should choose a color that is considered edgy. When selecting a trendy color, you should choose a color that will be easy to cover. You do not want to use a color that will be difficult to paint over in the future. Otherwise, you newly painted room could become dated quickly.

  • Select colors that compliment your natural mood. Some people enjoy high energy colors, and other prefer relaxing hues. The color of your walls will have a direct impact on your mood. Light in the room will reflect off the walls and transfer the color of the wall throughout the room. Choose a color that sets the right mood for your personality.
