How to Choose Lawn and Garden Services

Hiring a company to care for your lawn and garden can save you a lot of work and time.  You will have a professionally manicured backyard to enjoy without needing to put forth the effort yourself.  There are a few things that you should consider when you are researching potential lawn and garden service companies.

  • Evaluate your needs.  Make a list of the services that you need performed.  Consider such things as mowing, fertilizing, pruning, landscaping and seasonal garden maintenance.  Once you know the services that you need to have performed, you can seek a company who is able to meet your needs.

  • Get recommendations from friends and family.  If you know someone who has a lawn and garden that you admire, ask them what service company they use.  Gather as many recommendations as you can and make a note of the company names that you hear.  Do some research online and read reviews that others have posted about those companies.  This will give you some insight into the types of services the company provides, the quality of their products and the level of customer service they will offer to you.  It should give you an idea of whether or not you would be interested in working with the company at hand.  This will help you create a smaller list of companies that you wish to contact directly.

  • Contact the company.  Once you have identified a few companies that can meet your lawn and garden service needs, contact them directly.  Let them know what services you need them to provide and ask for a quote.  Be sure to get the quote in writing so that you can compare it to quotes offered by other service companies.  Ask each company that you contact to send a service representative to your house so that they can evaluate your needs.  Meeting their service representative can give you an excellent measure of the quality of their customer service.

  • Agree to a trial period.  In most cases, you will be required to sign a contract of service with the lawn and garden maintenence company that you choose.  In the beginning, agree to the shortest contract term possible.  Ideally, your initial contract will be less than one year.  This will give you time to see their services in action.  If you are happy with the services they provide and the quality of your yard, be sure to renew your contract before it expires.
