How to Choose Paint Colors for Trim Work

Choosing the paint colors for the trim work in your home is very important because it is used to accentuate the rest of the room. If you have molding in any room of your home, this is your trim and a chance to make the room look complete. Selecting the right colors for this trim needs to be taken serious.

  1. First, if you have been made to
believe that you must choose white for your trim, this is not true.
Of course, if the rooms in your home have bold colors such as reds,
then white may be the ultimate trim to go with so that it ties the
room together. However, if you are using cooler shades that are
lighter, white trim will fade into the wall's color.

  2. Remember that your trim is a
compliment to the color of paint you have on the walls. Therefore,
it has to match the color on the walls, but contrasting colors is
very modern looking. For instance, if you have cooler shades of
painted wall, you can use a darker trim, which will make the paint
on the walls stand out and help the room appear very cozy.

  3. Keep in mind if your ceiling are
low, this is one time that you would want to match the trim paint on
molding to what you have on the walls. If the trim is a different
shade, it will make your ceilings look even lower.

  4. Choose colors for your trim that
are glossy as this helps the trim stand out even more. Remember also
that you do not have to do extreme bold contrasts, it can be very
subtle, if this is more your taste.
