How to Cite Progress in a Cardiovascular Nursing Journal

The American Psychological Association (APA) publishes a book annually that gives writers guidelines about citing professional works within academic papers and academic journals. Professionals in the nursing field use the APA style guide to cite both in-text works and as works used as a reference.

In-Text Citations

  1. Give
the author's last name in your in-text citation or in parentheses
at the end of the sentence. For example, “Smith posits that nurses
should use multimedia tools to educate patients about cardiovascular
disease,” or “Nurses use a wide range of multimedia tools to
educate their patients about cardiovascular disease (Smith).” If
there is more than one author use the term et al to show more than
one author was responsible for the work. For example, “Nurses use
a wide range of multimedia tools to educate their patients about
    cardiovascular disease (Smith et al.)

  2. Enclose
in parentheses the year the journal published the article that you
are using an in-text citation for. For example, “Nurses use a wide
range of multimedia tools to educate their patients about
    cardiovascular disease (Smith, 2010).”

  3. Give
the page number of the journal you are quoting from, only if it is a
direct quotation. For example, “Nurses use a wide range of
multimedia tools to educate their patients about cardiovascular
    disease (Smith, 2010, pg 209).

  1. List the
author's last name and initials first. Separate the names with
commas and place an ampersand before the last names if there are

    Miller, S.
