- Work clothes
- Work boots
- Shovel
- Wheel barrow
- Clean straw bedding
- Make sure that you wear the proper clothing before you begin. An old pair of clothes and a good pair of work boots should be worn. Cleaning horse barns can be a very dirty job and you will want to wear clothing that you do not mind getting dirty. The best time to clean a horse barn is when your horse is not in the barn that you intend on cleaning. Make sure that your horse is in an area that will allow you to clean properly without it getting in your way.
- Get out your cleaning tools. A large shovel and wheel barrow should be used for easy cleaning.
- Remove items from the barn such as toys and feeding buckets.
- Inspect the bedding in the horse barn. All straw bedding should be removed that you feel has been soiled. If you have not cleaned the barn in a while, then you should remove all of the bedding.
- Use your shovel to remove the dirty bedding into the wheel barrow. Empty the wheelbarrow when you feel that it is starting to get too heavy. Pile the soiled bedding away from the barn to ensure that it does not contaminate any clean straw with manure.
- Remove any stray manure that you see in the horse barn and put clean straw back in to place. Extra bedding should be added to replace the dirty straw that you have removed.
- Place toys and buckets back into the barn after you have inspected them to make sure that they are also clean.
- Clean your shovel and wheelbarrow and place them back into their appropriate storage area.
