How to Clean Hunting and Fishing Equipment
The equipment used for hunting and fishing can cost a person a lot of money to purchase. That is why it is important to maintain these items to make them last. In order to clean hunting and fishing equipment, you’ll need some basic cleaning supplies and techniques.
Fishing Rods, Reels and Guns
- Fill a bucket with hot soapy water.
- Dip a wash cloth in the bucket, and scrub away the grime.
- Once all of the dirt and grime are removed, dry the gun, fishing pole or reel with a dry towel.
- Purchase a can of WD40, and apply a little bit of it to any metal on the objects to prevent rust. It is especially important to treat saltwater fishing gear with a mild lubricant to keep stop corrosion.
Clothing
- Let any mud on hunting or fishing clothing dry before trying to remove it. Trying to clean an object with wet mud on it may only push the stain into the fabric.
- When the mud dries, scrape it off the objects using a scrub brush.
- Apply stain remover to clothing items and launder them. Make sure to read the tags on clothing and follow the manufacturer’s washing instructions.
Boots
- Spray down non-leather hunting or fishing boots with a water hose, and allow them to dry in the sunlight.
- If the boots are leather, purchase a leather cleaning kit to do the cleaning job. Applying water to leather can ruin it.
- Remove the strings from the boots, wash them in the washing machine, place them in the dryer to dry. Lace them back into the boots when dry.
