How to Clean Men's Dress Clothes

A sharp dress shirt looks fantastic on any man. A crisp white shirt on a professional businessman is stylish and sophisticated. You must learn how to wash men's dress shirts properly to keep your shirt looking fabulous. Correctly pressing and washing your dress shirt is extremely important. On the other hand, if a dress shirt is poorly washed and pressed it can look extremely tacky.

  1. Turn your shirt inside out. If you have stains on your shirt, spray with stain remover on the armpits, collars and any other area that may have spots. Rub the spray into the shirt and leave on the shirt for about five to ten minutes.

  2. Turn on your washing machine and place on a warm setting. Place the laundry soap and borax into the water or the dispenser, depending on what kind of washing machine you have. If your shirt is deeply soiled, turn off the washing machine when it is full of water and placed on a soak setting, and let the shirts soak in soapy water for around 30 minutes to one hour, then turn the washing machine back on and let the wash cycle complete itself.

  3. Add a liquid fabric softener when the washing machine reaches the rinse cycle and the water has filled to the top. Wait for the washing machine to rinse and spin to complete the cycle.

  4. Hang your shirt on a plastic hanger, do not use a metal hanger because it can leave marks, then straighten the collar and sleeves. Let the shirt dry naturally for around one hour.

  5. Set your iron on a low to medium heat and press all the wrinkles that are visible out of the shirt. Make sure the iron is not too hot because you can burn your shirt and leave marks if you are not careful.
