How to Clean Mold Problems on Nylon Cloths

Nylon cloth left for a long period of time can collect mold. Many people end up throwing the material away before realizing it could have been cleaned. There are steps you can take to remove mold successfully from your nylon cloth and save you money.

Items Needed to Remove Mold From Nylon:

  • Cold/Hot Water

  • Container

  • Soft-bristled brush

  • Laundry detergent

  • Bleach

  • Sun

How to Remove Mold From Nylon

  1. Use a soft-bristled brush to remove mold on the fabric. Be gentle when brushing the fabric to avoid tearing it. It is best to brush the fabric outside to avoid mold spores from stirring up in your home.

  2. Lay your nylon out in the sun or hang it to reduce the mold spores from spreading. It is important to leave the nylon out in the sun for at least 24 hours.

  3. Soak the nylon in a container of cold water for 20 minutes. Depending upon the size of the fabric will determine the size of the container to use.

  4. Remove the fabric from the cold water and place it in a container or warm to hot water. Use laundry detergent to wash the fabric. The combination of detergent and water should remove the remainder of the mold on the fabric.

  5. Use bleach to dab the stains left on the fabric. It is best to use color safe bleach when removing mold from nylon.

  6. Rinse the nylon fabric in cold water. If preferred the fabric can then be washed as usual.
