How to Clean Spray Paint From Windows
Painting your home can be an exhausting chore, using a spray paint gun can help cut down on the amount of time it takes to get the job done. However, when using spray paint, you can run the risk of paint getting on your windows or other glass fixtures such as mirrors. It is important to learn the proper method for removing spray paint from windows and miscellaneous glass.
If the paint is caught while the it is still wet, it can be taken care of with a window cleaning solution applied immediately then wiped carefully off the area. However, if the paint has had time to dry, another method will have to be used to safely remove the paint.
- Tape the surrounding area of the window with masking tape to prevent damage or chipped paint.
- Spray the window with a glass cleaner such as Windex or a soapy solution made with dish soap and water. The window must be wet before you start to scrub the paint. A dry window may crack or scratch easily.
- Use a scrub brush to remove any dirt or debris from the window.
- Take a brand new razor blade. The razor must be new so it is not dull or rusted; this will also cut down on the possibility of scratching the glass. Hold the razor carefully to prevent injury.
- Place razor at a 45-degree horizontal angle and scrape a small area of the paint first to see if the paint will be removed and no damage is being done.
- Lift the blade between strokes to keep from scratching the surface.
- Listen for any sounds that may be a sign that the glass is being scratched, such as a coarse gritty sound. If you hear this its important to stop and access whether the blade is actually in quality condition or if you need to be more careful in your application.
- Reapply cleaning solution after the paint is removed to clean the window of any debris left from the process.
- Remove masking tape after the glass is clean.
