How to Clean Trex Deck Materials
Trex decks are a composite of a combination of materials used to protect decks from rot, warping and various insects. Trex decks are easily maintained and do not require staining or staining. Trex decks only need to be cleaned a couple of times a year, and cleaning can be done in a few simple steps.
Materials Needed
- Bucket
- Soap
- Soft, long-handled brush
- Acetone
- Soft cloth or cotton balls
- Deck brightener
- Oil stain remover
- Deck wash
- Mix a bucket of hot water and soap.
- Wash the deck vigorously using the soapy hot water mixture with the long handled brush. Wash the deck three to four times a year to rid the Trex deck of all debris and dirt.
- Rub acetone on any factory printing on the Trex deck. Use cotton balls or a soft cloth to rub the acetone on the lettering. The acetone will remove the lettering. Repeat this step if the lettering is not removed in the first cleaning.
- Clean the rust stains and embedded dirt with deck brightener. Dilute the solution per manufacturer's instruction if needed before cleaning. Use a garden sprayer to apply the deck brightener. Protect yourself when applying the deck brightener, because it may contain phosphoric or oxalic acids. Once the deck brightener is applied use the long handled brush to scrub the deck.
- Rinse the deck as soon as you are finished washing with hot water.
- Prep the garden sprayer with a deck cleaner containing bleach. Spray the deck with the prepared solution to prevent mildew and mold from forming on the Trex deck. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the deck cleaner. Some require you to scrub or rinse the deck cleaner, while other cleaners may instruct you to just leave the cleaner on and let dry once applied.
