How to Get Water out of Used Motor Oil

How to Clean Used Motor Oil

Oil is something a motor must have to work properly, and it should be clean oil. It can become quite expensive to change the oil in your vehicle everything 3000-5000 miles, so some people have learned how to clean oil themselves.

Items Needed:

  • Cotton or natural fiber rope

  • 2 gallon sized glass containers

  • Wood

  • Other shelf building supplies

  1. Measure the glass containers. You need the height and width of these containers.

  2. Build a shelf to hold the containers. Use the measurements from step one to design a shelf to hold the containers. It should be built so that the top of one container is at the bottom of the other, but they should be side by side.

  3. Gather your used oil. This oil is transferred to the top container.

  4. Place the empty container on the bottom shelf.

  5. Cut your rope to the appropriate length. The rope should be the perfect length to reach from the top container to the bottom one.

  6. Place the rope in the containers. Different ends of the rope should be in the containers. It is extremely important that this is secured in place, but it cannot have any kinks or knots made in it. You can use something like straight pins to help with the security.

  7. Wait until gravity does the work. This process will take about two weeks for a gallon of oil. Once the dirty oil begins seeping up the rope, gravity will begin pulling it down into the clean container.
