How to Clean a Burnt Pot
Whether you are a fantastic cook or a poor one, you may have scorched a pot or two. It is very easy to walk away from a pot and leave something on the stove a little longer than you should. You come back and you have a burnt mess on your hands. You should consider yourself really lucky if a burnt pot is all that you get. There are methods that can be used to clean your pot.
Items Needed to Clean a Burnt Pot:
- Baking soda
- White distilled vinegar
- Brillo pads
- Water
How to Clean a Burnt Pot:
- Remove all food from your burnt pot. You probably do not want to eat your scorched food. Just toss it out. Scrape as much of the black residue from the bottom inside of the pot. You may have to use a wooden spoon or spatchula. Rinse your pot to make sure as much of the residue that can be removed is out.
- Sprinkle a thin covering of baking soda on the burned area of the pot. Make sure the entire black area is completely covered. You only need to use a small amount of baking soda to cover the area.
- Pour distilled white vinegar on the top of the baking soda. This should cover the bottom of the pot as well.
- Let your solution set for about one hour. It is best to allow the pot to sit overnight with the solution in it. The baking soda and vinegar will begin to bubble. Do not be alarmed; this is a normal reaction when these two ingredients are mixed together.
- Remove the vinegar and baking soda solution by rinsing it down the drain. Take a Brillo pad and scrub the area. You may also use an SOS pad; they work well also. You do not want to scratch up your pot so make sure you gently scrub the area. The blackened area of your pot should easily be lifted while scrubbing.
- Rinse your pot. If needed, repeat the process until all the burned areas are removed.
