How to Clean a Drain With Bleach
Using liquid bleach is most efficient to clean germs, bacteria and odors that accumulate in drains. It is a fast, simple and effective way to clean any drain. You must take caution when using liquid bleach as the fumes are hazardous to your health. Never mix bleach with any other chemical because it can cause a severe toxic reaction.
How to Clean a Drain With Bleach
- Open the windows in the room where the draining is being done. If there is an exhaust fan, turn it on as well. Fumes from the bleach are caustic and should not be inhaled. Proper ventilation will help dissipate the fumes. A mask can be used to prevent inhalation of the toxins as well.
- Pour a half gallon of bleach down the drain.
- Let the bleach sit in the drain for a minimum of ten minutes to completely clean the drain of germs and bacteria.
- Run hot tap water through the drain for a couple of minutes. The drain will be free of germs and bacteria and will smell fresh and clean.
