How to Clean a Walk-In Freezer
Cleaning a regular freezer is simple enough due to its small size. Walk-in freezers, on the other hand, are as large as a room, and sometimes even larger. If you try to clean a walk-in freezer with plain water and soap, the water will freeze and create a hazardous situation. To properly clean your walk-in freezer you must clean quickly and with just the right materials.
- Remove everything that is removable from your walk-in freezer. This includes items on shelves and on the floor.
- Sweep or scrape any large debris out of the freezer.
- Mix 1 gallon of extremely hot water with 1/2 cup of liquid soap and 1 cup of rubbing alcohol. Combine the mixture in a large bucket that you can move easily from one spot to another in the walk-in freezer. When the water cools down to the point that it can freeze on the floor of the freezer, change the solution out for a fresh mixture with extremely hot water.
- Leave the door to the freezer open and mop quickly with the soap, water and alcohol solution. The hot water combined with rubbing alcohol should be able to clean the freezer's surfaces without freezing. Clean shelves with a sponge or rag dipped in the soap, water and alcohol. Start at the back of the freezer and clean your way toward the doorway. Clean small areas at a time and wipe dry with a towel or rag before moving on to the next part of the walk-in freezer.
- Continue cleaning small areas until the entire freezer is clean. Replace everything in the freezer and rinse your supplies.
