How to Collect Antique License Plates
Many people have become interested in collecting antique license plates. Anyone can get in the habit of collecting these plates. These plates can be easily identified because of the date on the plates. Depending upon the years of the plate you may be able to collect a nice fee for them. Very old license plates are worth a lot more money because they are very rare.
- Check an old junk yards or garages. Many old cars that have been sitting for years may still have the license plates attached. Get the permission of the junkyard or garage manager before removing the plates. Keep in mind the older the plates, the more money they are worth.
- Look in your grandparents or great-grandparents garage. Many have old cars sitting around and they may have the license plates for them. Check with them to see if it will alright to take the plates. Most likely they will be more than happy to give it to you. They want have too much use for it, especially if they have a new car.
- Check online on sites such as eBay, Craigslist and Amazon. You may be able to find a seller that is looking to get rid of some license plates. Make sure you see the merchandise before buying it. Ask the buyer for a picture and information about the plates.
- Check with AAA. The Auto Club will allow you to purchase license plates for a little under $45. You may even be able to find antique custom-made license plates through AAA.
- Visit local flea markets and yard sales. Many people sell the plates not knowing what they have on their hands. You can kindly purchase it from them for a small fee, and then sell it later for a lot more.
