How to Find the Best GRE Prep Courses

How to Compare GRE Prep Courses

Prior to enrolling in graduate school, many students are required to pass the Graduate Record Examination, or GRE. It is imperative that prospective graduate students perform well on the GRE. Taking a GRE preparation course can be an effective way to improve one's score on this important exam.

  1. Create a list of available preparation courses in your area. Depending on where you live, the GRE preparation course options may be limited. Do some research to find which courses are available to you. Gather some basic information regarding the courses, including the course focus, learning materials, schedule and cost.

  2. Determine which course would be most beneficial to you. Ideally, the GRE prep course that you choose will be well-matched to your educational strengths and weaknesses. It is important that the course focus on those areas where you need additional study and improvement. Those areas where you are confident should also be covered, but a focus on the areas where you need extra help will be more beneficial to you as a student.

  3. Find a schedule that works for you. A GRE prep course may offer all of the education that you need, but if the schedule conflicts with work or classes, it will be nearly impossible for you to attend. The preparation course schedule is an important consideration when comparing GRE prep courses.

  4. Compare the costs of the course. More comprehensive and individualized preparation courses are often more expensive than preparation courses, which simply focus on improving one's GRE score. Find a course that suits your budget as well as your preparation needs.
