How to Compare Minivans by Safety & Quality
All minivans are not created equal. When shopping for a new minivan it is important to compare the safety and quality of different minivans, even if they are the same price. Comparison can be done using the Internet as well as in person at the dealership.
- Decide which minivans you want to compare. Select a few that are in your price range that you find appealing. You may select your choices from word of mouth or minivans you have seen in commercials.
- Search for minivan safety ratings on the Internet. Many agencies and organizations publish vehicle safety ratings. A few reliable sources for safety ratings are the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Compare the minivans using a few of these resources and make a note of which one is safer overall.
- Research the minivans' specifications on their brands websites. Even if two minivans are the same price, they may be of vastly different quality. Compare their engines, amenities, gas mileage and warranties. You may also want to compare the kind of financing offered by the dealerships that sell both types of minivans and see if there are any current sales events.
- Read some consumer reviews. Consumer written reviews can often tell you things about the minivans that simply reading about the safety rating and specifications will not tell you.
- Visit a car dealership to make your final choice. After you have narrowed your choices down to one or two minivans, go to the dealership and take them for a test drive. All the online research in the world is no substitute for actually driving the car. You may have found two minivans that cost about the same and are of about the same quality, but you may vastly prefer driving one of the other.
