How to Compare Motorcycle Insurance Plans
You and your wife have finished raising some great kids who have graduated from college and moved out on their own, so you finally went out and purchased two spectacular motorcycles. You still can't believe it. It was discussed awhile back, but you just never knew when you'd actually have a chance to buy them. Now you have them and you have to get some motorcycle insurance so you can enjoy riding them.
- Brainstorm a list of things that may need coverage. You'll need coverage to protect you and the motorcycle should you get into an accident. You might want coverage to protect anyone else involved in the accident. Consider getting maintenance insurance, as well, to cover those major repairs.
- Call your current insurance carrier. If you have a car, let your carrier know that you also have a motorbike and you need coverage for that. See if you can get a discount for having more than one thing under the company's coverage. If you have any friends, associates or family members who own motorbikes, ask them about their insurance. Make a list containing names of different potential insurance companies and the features offered. Pick at least five companies.
- Put together a pros and cons list for each carrier. Base it on budget, features and benefits. Take a good look and think over each one and see which one would benefit you the most.
- Choose the top three and repeat step three until you have your number one choice.
- Get the best deal. Ask about new customer rates and referral plans. Don't sign anything until you are absolutely satisfied with everything. Bring an experienced motorcycle rider along for support and wisdom. Have fun and watch out for bugs in the teeth.
