How to Compete in an Amateur Bodybuilding Contest

Bodybuilding contests give committed, disciplined athletes an opportunity to show off their hard work by performing and being judged by a panel of professionals.  Amateur bodybuilders work hard to perfect their bodies and amateur bodybuilding contests allow them to compete for recognition.

  1. Browse the Internet looking for local amateur bodybuilding contests. A basic Internet search will provide you with a list of gyms and information.

  2. Visit the Amateur Bodybuilders Association (ABA) website and view the schedule of upcoming contests. The ABA is also a good source for tips about preparing for the competitions.

  3. Develop relationships with other local bodybuilders at fitness facilities.

  4. Attend any local bodybuilding competitions to network with other bodybuilders.

  5. Train on a regular basis to keep your body in top condition.

  6. Enroll in an amateur bodybuilding competition. You are required to pay an enrollment fee to secure your spot in the competition.

  7. Increase your training regimen as the date of the competition comes closer.

  8. Develop your tan prior to the competition. Tanned contestants receive better scores in the competition. You can use self-tanning products right before the competition.

  9. Develop the routine that you will perform at the competition.  A choreographed routine will improve your confidence. Incorporate your music to fit the routine.

  10. Shave your body preparing for the competition. You should begin the shaving routine several weeks prior to the competition so your skin will adapt to the shaving routine.  Shaving your body hair will allow your muscles to show unobstructed.
