How to Complete Black Mold Cleanu
Black mold is a common toxic mold. If you see black mold in your house it is very important to clean it up as soon as possible. There is no need to call a professional cleaning crew, as there are many household items you can use to clean up the black mold on your own. Follow these simple steps and you will rid your house of black mold safely and efficiently.
- Isolate the area. If you have black mold in several rooms you need to isolate each room as you clean the area. Close off the heating duct. During summer turn off the air conditioner and all ceiling fans. Use plastic sheeting and duct tape to isolate the area. You do not want to make the effort to clean the black mold only to move it to the next room or spread it through the ventilation system.
- Make the repairs. Find the source of the mold and repair the area. For example, if the mold is from a water logged floor board then you must remove the board. Repair the area by replacing the old board with a new board. Make sure to thoroughly review the area so you do not miss any source of the black mold.
- Clean the area. Wear a mask to cover your nose and mouth so you do not inhale the black mold. You can buy the mask at a pharmacy or drugstore. Use a cleaning solution consisting of two cups of bleach to a half-gallon of water. Wipe down the area and loosen any stubborn mold with a scrub brush. For any narrow cracks and crevices you may need to use an old tooth brush to scrub out the area. Scrub the entire area with the bleach solution. There are also special commercial cleaners you can use to eliminate the black mold. The commercial cleaner will smell great but it is also very expensive. With either cleaner, rinse the area with clear water and let the area dry.
- Use Lysol. After the area has dried completely use the fresh scented disinfectant and spray the entire area. The spray will destroy any mold spores still floating in the air. It will also leave a nice fresh scent.
- Throw out your cleaning tools. You need to throw out any tools you used to clean the mold. This is the only way to completely rid your house of any black mold and prevent it from spreading.
