How to Configure Wheels & Tires
When looking to purchase new wheels and tires for your vehicle, it is essential that you purchase the correct size. The wheels, or rims, must be compatible to the size tire on your vehicle. It is easy to find out the correct tire and wheel size for your vehicle.
Tires:
- Locate the tire size: Look on the sidewall of the tire. The tire's size is written in an alpha-numeric form, like P265/65R17.
- Read the numbers: The way to read the tire size is the first number (265) is the width size of the tire, which would be 265 mm, in this example. The number 17, in this example, is the diameter of the tire in inches. The number 65, in this example, is the aspect ratio between the diameter and width, 65 mm.
- Purchase tires: Make sure to purchase a set of tires that match in size and tread. Using tires that do not match in size or tread can damage your vehicle or affect the way that it drives. It is also important to make sure that you use tires that are the correct size needed.
Wheels (Rims):
- Refer to your owner's manual: Check your owner's manual to see what size rims are on your vehicle. You can also go into a tire shop and one of the professionals can advise you what size rims are on your vehicle. They can also advise you what size tires will fit on your rims.
- Purchase rims: Once you know what size rims you need, you can purchase the rims of your choice for your vehicle.
