How to Manage Non-Renewable Natural Resources

How to Conserve Natural Resources

Conserving natural resources is an important part of going green. By conserving what you use, you ensure that there are resources left for future generations. It also goes a long way in protecting our Environment. Changing how you use energy in your home can save you money and help save the planet.

  • Choose not to use paper products whenever possible. Dishrags are a great alternative to paper towels. Paper plates, cups and napkins are tossed in the trash after use; for every one of these items a tree is cut down. That tree helps produce oxygen and cleans the air, fuel is used to turn trees into paper products and then the discarded items are put into a landfill. The process harms the planet in many ways; not using paper items protects it in many more ways.

  • Turn off lights and electronic devices when not in use. Unplug appliances and computers. Even if they are turned off, they are still drawing power. This is known as phantom energy use, you do not see it being used so you never realize it is happening. Change your light bulbs to energy saving fluorescents. They use less electricity and cost you less each year on your power bill. Run your laundry in cold water and then hang dry clothes.

  • Plant a garden, instead of buying from the grocery store. When you purchase an item, it takes fuel, electricity and chemicals to get it to your store. By planting your own, you control the chemicals that are used and there are no transportation impacts.
