How to Contact a Music Producer
Contacting a music producer is not an easy task to take on. Like all people in the entertainment industry there are certain steps that you have to go through in order to get a meeting with a music producer. Thanks to the Internet and the ever-changing music world, the process to contact a music producer directly has become easier for aspiring musicians.
- Search the Internet and look for specific producers that work in your musical genre. Make a list of the producers you want to contact. See who the top producers are in the business and write down their contact information.
- Study the music industry. Make sure, before you contact any music producers, that you have a wide range of understanding of the business. Not being able to have a conversation with them will not get you very far. Just make sure you have some starter conversations about being a music producer or the music business.
- Contact the music producers. Be sure to explain why you are contacting them and what your goal is. Is it to become an assistant an artist? Have a clear goal in mind when calling the music producer. This will ensure you sound professional and are ready for all tasks that lie ahead.
- Start calling the names you put down on your list. Remember that you will not talk directly to the music producer, but you will probably talk to an assistant. Try to have a good relationship with the person on the phone, be as nice as you can and inquire on how to set up a meeting with the producer.
- Follow the instructions of the producer’s office. For example, if you were told to send a resume or demo, be sure to do so immediately. Follow-up with the producer’s office in a week with the office to confirm receipt and inquire about the next step.
- Hang around places where you think music producers would hang out. Check out hot spot music clubs and establishments.
- Use all the tools that are available to you. Like Facebook, MySpace and other networking sites. Be on the lookout for any hot thing going on in your area.
