How to Copy DVDs With Disc Utility
Apple computers have a Disk Utility that allows you to create, burn, and copy DVDs on your Mac computer. Using this utility, you can make a virtual disk image of a DVD, and also restore your hard drive. You can copy any DVD as long as it is not copy protected. You can copy DVDs with Disk Utility in a few short steps.
- Insert the DVD that you want to copy into the DVD drive on your Mac computer. Open the Disk Utility program by clicking “Disk Utility” from the Finder’s “Go” menu.
- Select the DVD that you want to copy from the left pane of the Disk Utility. Click “File” from the menu bar at the top, and select “New.” Select the DVD that you want to copy from the “Image from” option.
- Name the DVD by entering a name in the field provided, and then click “DVD/CD Master” from the Image Format menu. Click “Create” and Disk Utility will start the process of creating a virtual image of the DVD. It will be listed in the left pane when it is finished. It will only take a few minutes to do this process.
- Remove the DVD from the Mac’s DVD drive, and then click the new disk image that was just created by the Disk Utility. Click “Burn” and insert a blank DVD into the Mac’s DVD drive when you are prompted.
- Click “Burn” again to burn and copy the DVD you just inserted into the Mac’s DVD drive. This will only take a few minutes, depending upon how much information was on the DVD, and the speed of your computer.
