How to Copy Software to a Second Computer
When your computer gets old or your hard drive is starting to fail, it will become necessary to copy all your data over to a brand new computer. You will need to copy not only your software to a second computer, but also the individual settings that you've created for it.
Insert a flash drive into your computer's USB slot. Find your software settings. In Windows this can be found under Documents and Settings. If your Windows login name is User101 then it will be under "C:Documents and SettingsUser101". Open Windows Explorer to "C:Documents and Settings" and drag the entire contents of the "User101" directory over to the icon representing your USB flash drive. Wait for the computer to copy all the files over. Remove the flash drive and insert it into your second computer's USB slot. On your second computer open up the "C:Documents and SettingsUser101" folder in Windows Explorer. Drag the "User101" directory from your flash drive over to the second computer's ""C:Documents and SettingsUser101" folder and wait for the computer to finish copying the data over.
Remove the flash drive from the second computer and insert it back in the first computer. In Windows Explorer, find the folder representing the program that you want to copy. If the program's name is WebBrowser2011, look for it in the Program Files directory. In Windows, that might be "c:Program FilesWebBrowser2011". Drag and drop this entire "WebBrowser2011" directory onto the flash drive as shown in Step 1, remove the flash drive and insert it into the second computer. Drag and drop the "WebBrowser2011" folder onto the second computer's hard drive under the "C:Program Files" folder.
If the program doesn't work on the new computer then try re-installing the software using its original installation disk. You can also re-download many programs online from their distributor's website.
