How to Create Custom Cards
Creating custom cards to use yourself or give as a gift adds an extra dimension of enjoyment of them. All you need is a computer, some card stock, and a word processing program, preferably a presentation program like PowerPoint. You can also create unique, custom cards with embellishments and a little creativity.
Computer
- Research designs or look for inspiration. Find free images and clipart online to bring your cards to life. Use specific keywords to help you search. Save the images you find into a document.
- Use your presentation program and open a new document. Choose a landscape layout. You can get two cards on one page. Margins should be 4 ½ inches for the top and ½ inch for the sides and bottom.
- Decide on the font, color and size of the text. Choose something that best represents your personality or the personality of who you are creating the cards for.
- Design your card and copy to have two cards to the page.
- Using paper, print a sample. After you have confirmed the card has the loom you desire, print them on card stock.
- Cut the full sheet into two note cards, the fold each in half.
Hand crafted
- Research websites and magazines that feature scrapbooking and card making inspirations. There are many techniques for creating something unusual, such as tearing the paper, using vellum or adding embellishments like crystals, sequins or ribbon to the front.
- If using inks, allow the ink to dry completely before adding more or embellishments.
- You can use one piece of card stock folded in half for larger cards, or cut a sheet of card stock in half for two cards.
- Choose inks and cardstock that are complementary to each other.
