How to Create Name Signs for Office Doors

When a company hires a new employee, it is often the responsibility of the human resources department to supply the new employee with a name plate for their office door. Name plates are ordered from custom manufacturing and engraving companies. There are a few things that you must know before you create a name plate for a new employee.

  1. Verify the employee's information. This includes both the proper spelling of the employee's name, as well as their new position. Obtain the name of their official position from their employee records. It is a good idea to double and triple check the proper spelling of their name prior to ordering the name plate.

  2. Choose a name plate retailer. There are many different companies that you can choose from, including major retailers like OfficeMax and smaller local engraving companies. You might also be able to find an online company that specializes in name plate engraving. Do a thorough comparison before you choose which retailer to purchase from. Include such things as design options, processing time and cost.  Decide on the retailer that best suits your needs.

  3. Design the new name plate. Depending on the retailer that you are using, you might be able to create your design online. In other cases, you might need to complete this step in-store. Include the employee's name and official title. Consider such things as font, the size of the writing, and whether or not you wish to include the company logo in your design.

  4. Finalize your design and confirm that everything is spelled correctly. Place your order and complete the payment process. In most cases, your new name plate will arrive in a few short weeks.
